It Was Competition Time!!

Our first competition Facebook Live draw!

After sadly leaving RJV Maintenance & Waste Services due to slipping a disc in my back while patio laying at the notorious Bovisand, I set up Affordable Waste Services Ltd on the foundations of purely collecting waste and leaving the heavy building and maintenance work behind.

While working for RJV, I gained great customer service skills, rapport-building with clients, and the highest clean working standards. This was thanks to my good old mate Richard, who had me hoover the grass at the end of jobs to ensure no trace of us being there was left. After each working day, we also cleared down the site so it was liveable for the night—so the next morning we could make dust and mess again! This helped Affordable Waste Services set its strongest foundation.

Setting up a new Ltd company from a sole trader felt daunting, but I liked the thought of taking the risk and went for it. This also meant starting a new Facebook page from scratch, which I had never done before. Once the account was made and I had 0 followers, I had to come up with an idea to initially get people to my company page rather than hoping all my personal Facebook friends would join and spread the word.

Sitting at my laptop looking into space, I had an idea that I thought for sure was going to fail—but I had nothing else to hand. I’ll make a Facebook post advertising my new company and promote a competition! I came up with all the prizes being waste collection services and added in a box of Cadbury’s Freddos for good luck. “Like, Share & Follow” and you’re in!

I ran this for 3 weeks and gained over 250 new followers, 120 people entered the competition, and my new Facebook page & company was off the ground!

Moral of the story: If you don’t take risks, you won’t reap the rewards!
